Ship to Shore
- Local mobile service in Panama . Coverage is generally limited to the coast line near the main population centers.
- Globalstar Satellite (Voice) for emergency calls.
- Inmarsat-C: Email (text only, no attachments).
- Inmarsat-B voice, email, and high-speed data transfers (at a cost to science users).
- Emails through Inmarsat- C (text only, no attachments).
- Radios: the ship's radios are for use during emergencies and for routine ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communications that concern the operation or safe passage of the vessel.
- Daily progress reports to your home or office, or the transfer of information important to the successful completion of your scientific cruise, can be conveyed through the Ship's Office by arrangement with the Master.
- The Chief Scientist is responsible for all communications costs incurred by the scientific party. Contact the Vessel Superintendent before your cruise to discuss your communication needs and costs thereof.

Communications costs: The Chief Scientist is responsible for all communications costs incurred by the scientific party on a cruise, and will be billed accordingly. Inmarsat C usage is free to science users. Inmarsat B costs up to $10/min (for high speed data) and both incoming and outgoing traffic (voice, fax and email) are charged for. Contact the Vessel Superintendent before your cruise to discuss your communication needs and costs thereof.
